Perriello camp calls elections a ‘wake-up call’

Rep. Tom Perriello’s (D-Va.) campaign says in an e-mail supporters that the elections on Tuesday should serve as a “wake-up call."

Perriello and three other Virginia Democrats saw their districts go heavily for Republican Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell, and Republicans have sought to use the results as proof that the members are in trouble next year.

Perriello’s finance director, Anna Scholl, acknowledged some worry in a fundraising e-mail.

“The story of election 2008 was like a dream come true; 2009 a wake-up call,” Scholl wrote. “And the story of 2010 will be written not from vote totals of years past but from the work that we do over the next 12 months.”

Republicans have signed up state Sen. Robert Hurt (R) to run against Perriello. The other targets are Reps. Gerry Connolly, Rick Boucher and Glenn Nye.
