The chairman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Rep. Michael Honda (D-Calif.), is taking some of the credit for bringing fellow caucus member Rep. Joseph Cao (R-La.) across the aisle as the only Republican to vote for the Democrat-led healthcare overhaul that passed the House Saturday night by 220-215.
According to Honda’s spokesman, the CAPAC chairman “wanted to make sure that the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus…voted for the healthcare bill, including CAPAC member Rep. Cao.”
“Honda and Cao are longtime friends, as Honda encouraged and assisted Cao’s run for Congress, and so Honda assisted in bringing Cao on board the bill. As a result, the entirety of CAPAC members voted for the bill.”
