RNC quick to pounce on new White House counsel
The Republican National Committee (RNC) launched a quick attack on the incoming White House counsel, calling him a "hyper-partisan election attorney."
The RNC quickly released a research memo Friday morning characterizing President Barack Obama's pick to become the next top White House lawyer, D.C. attorney Bob Bauer, as a Democratic partisan and a Washington-based lobbyist.
Current White House counsel Gregory Craig announced his resignation this morning, which Obama accepted in a statement. Obama also named Bauer as Craig's replacement, where he will take over the legal office early next year.
The RNC memo summoned articles on Bauer's previous work, calling him a "partisan regular with a street-fighter's zeal" (parroting an ABA Journal headline), and hitting him for calling investigations into the community organizing group ACORN a "scare tactic" orchestrated by Republicans.
