Dunn says she wasn't 'going rogue' in attacks on Fox

By Michael O'Brien - 11/14/09 01:44 PM ET

A senior White House aide hinted she wasn't "going rogue" in launching the Obama administration's offensive against Fox News.

Outgoing White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, who has been credited with stirring up the feud between the Obama White House and Fox, defended the administration's views toward Fox.

"I'm not exactly one known for going rogue, to use a popular phrase these days," she said when asked if the Fox fight was coordinated with senior administration officials, such as Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

"The reality is that the media environment in this country has changed so dramatically over the last decade," she explained during Bloomberg News's summit in Washington this week, broadcast on "Political Capital with Al Hunt" this weekend. "What we traditionally think of as news organizations, or what traditionally are news organizations have changed so much."

The months-long feud between Fox and the Obama White House appears to have come to a truce in recent weeks, as administration officials have begun appearing again on Fox shows after meetings between the administration and Fox executives.

Dunn, who will leave the White House by the end of the month to be replaced by Dan Pfeiffer, pointed to Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" having revealed inaccuracies in a report by conservative anchor Sean Hannity as an example of a rightward bias at Fox.

"We're under no illusions about what the political agenda of certain news networks are," said Dunn, who denied a similar but left-leaning bias in the cable network MSNBC.

Why don't any of these remarks that announce Dunn leaving White House, add that her husband is taking Greg Craig's position?BY Nancy Gates on 11/14/2009 at 14:16
She may be a Maoist but she's certainly not the only devious member of the WH. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Rambo was behind it and she gleefully participated.BY Sheila on 11/14/2009 at 15:03
Americans are to read or watch the main media news so that we can use deductive reasoning as to what not to believe or what critical information was omitted and withheld from the american peoples in the 1st place. This includes Fox,Msnbc, cnn. This is the age that americans are going to independent sites and online and weeding out what the mainstream media stated as fact when in all actuality it was fiction. Iraq is a good example of the WMD disinformation. They kept telling the american people that Sadaam Hussein had WMD and implied he was a leader in our nations worst tragedy of 911 therefore instigating the people to war b/c as patriotic people we wanted the killers to pay. Sadaam had killed his own people and by far wasnot guiltless, but what I am trying to convey is that we went after him under false pretext and undeclared war for the lie that was given to the U.S. citizens through the fictional media pundits. May I repeat donot believe the television media propaganda news. They all give a little bit of truth and a whole lot of fiction added to the story to make the american people believe it.BY Jacob on 11/14/2009 at 15:07
Another communist with van jones. they were just going RED. What a freakin idiot and obamas adminstration is loaded with these losers. KILL OBAMACARE BEFORE IT KILLS AMERICA.BY jake2 on 11/14/2009 at 23:39
Can;t believe she uses Comedy Central "to reveal inaccuracies" on other networks. LOLBY Marten on 11/15/2009 at 07:44
Marten can't believe Dunn cited Jon Stewart, but The Daily Show — unlike the "news" channels — spotted the lie and reported it. Where were ABC, CBS NBC? Busy reporting on the Sarah Palin Comedy Tour 2009.BY Switzer on 11/15/2009 at 12:15
Is anyone shocked by this? Look around you. The regular Americans are losing faith quickly with this administration not to mention trust. In my mind, There is going to be a Republican landslide next year. This Administration is making it easier and easier. They mislead and outright lie. I guess it must be Bushes fault like everything else. What a joke.BY Mr Joshua on 11/15/2009 at 15:51
shoot the liberals. shoot the conservatives! take america back people! take them back for YOURSELVES not for any one party. Who said republican was good? who said democrat was good? Come up with another way to make america great again!.BY Lloyd C on 11/15/2009 at 19:00
I wonder if Dunn supports the government bailing out newspapers, and essentially controlling the flow of information to the American people. I'm sure she thinks that's the stuff of real journalism (unless a Republican administration comes in after).BY AdamC. on 11/15/2009 at 19:03
Good grief, let's be glad she's leaving. Having such a dunce in the Administration is embarrasing. EVEN MSNBC admits to their liberal bias, and this lady cannot see it? BTW, Hannity apologized for the error on the air last week.BY JD Plus on 11/16/2009 at 01:34

"Punch will stun West," reads the headline above the fold on Drudge this Tuesday. The line refers to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent, vague promise this week to somehow "punch the arrogance" of the West on February 11. "Healthcare theatrics" reads the banner atop The Huffington Post, which links to an AP story on the White House's struggle to bring GOP leaders to the table for a televised healthcare summit. The AP questions whether the event may have any utility outside of immediate personal politics. Below, reporter Sam Stein reports Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) plans to vote against the White House's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker.… Read More »

Moe Lane this morning summarizes the latest back-and-forth between the White House and congressional GOP leaders over healthcare. The White House wants Republicans to join Democrats for a televised healthcare summit in the coming days, but GOP leaders do not want Democrats' bill to be the basis for those talks. Meanwhile, Brian Darling takes on NYT columnist Paul Krugman's latest piece, in which he rails on the filibuster (and the GOP's use of it). "He is clearly way outside of his area of expertise when talking about Senate procedure, because his analysis is laughable," Darling writes.… Read More »

Spencer Ackerman leads The Washington Independent this morning with a post about William Lietzau, a top Obama White House appointee first installed during President George W. Bush's tenure. Lietzau handled the military commissions the Supreme Court later found unconstitutional, and Ackerman reports that he will soon become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs.Earlier, David Weigel shared Defense Secretary Robert Gates' thoughts on the passing of Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha (D). Noted Gates: "In our dealings over the years, Jack and I did not always agree, but I always respected his candor, and knew that he cared deeply about the men and women of America’s military and intelligence community." … Read More »
