Ron Paul: 'Too early' to decide on 2012

By Michael O'Brien - 11/14/09 04:46 PM ET

It's "too early" to say whether Rep. Ron Paul will run again for president, the Texas Republican said Saturday.

The libertarian congressman told a crowd in Iowa, the starting point for a presidential campaign, that he is simply focused on reelection to the House.

"It’s not on my mind, it’s too early, and I will be filing for my congressional seat,” Paul said in an interview with IowaPolitics.com.

“I don’t have any plans made," he said.

Paul's insurgent run for the Republican nomination in 2008 allowed him to build a semi-formidable grassroots organization and political action committee (PAC).

The 74-year-old's son, physician Rand Paul, is currently running for Senate in Kentucky.

Sure hope he decides to run. He is the only one worth voting for.BY Paul Trood on 11/14/2009 at 18:47
The one true party conservative who remains loyal to his constituents here in Tx by voting in accordance with our U.S. constitution. He willnot run for office of president as americans only listen to tv media pundits who tell us lies. Sorry congressman Paul, but americans haven't learned how to be free yet. Americans still believe in Obamas and GWBs executive orders and signing statements that they have power over the U.S. constitution and that we the citizens are their servants instead of what is written and declared by this eloquent and straight forward document.BY Joshua on 11/14/2009 at 18:59
PAUL TROOD, I second your statement. Paul is the real deal.BY Janet on 11/14/2009 at 19:02
A " semi-formidable grassroots organization"? I think I like the sound of that…BY spinnikerca on 11/14/2009 at 19:40
Very well stated, Paul. We like to consider ourselves so educated and sophisticated, yet we've allowed this two-headed big government beast to use our Constitution as a roll of toilet paper. Sad.BY Darryl Schmitz on 11/14/2009 at 19:45
I cant wait for Ron Paul to run again! He has such a grassroots following and his suporters are so loyal. There will be a mass of people in Iowa and his fundraising will be unreal. Until then check this guy out, and make a small contribution he is right on the same line with Ron Paul, look at his mission statement!www.ryonforcongress .comBY Alex on 11/14/2009 at 19:56
Just like this past election, if he's not on the ballot I'm going to write him in. Agreed he is the only one worth voting for. If you want change, and change for the better Ron Paul is your man.BY Jason on 11/14/2009 at 20:38

Ron Paul is DA MAN, and may be trustworthy, (I think his voting record says that) but think of what would happen if he DID win? He'd have to uproot his lady and live in Washington Dc and he would have practically no life or freedom, be tailed morning noon and night, thronged by adoring fans, and enemies, have to be beat up and harassed for every boo boo in the press, have so many pictures taken they would practically go blind from the flashing…I think it would wear him out quicker, and may be awful for his wife too. They are old, folks, and people want to have a glam couple represent America. Preferably black or another dark skinned person.BY KS Huffman on 11/14/2009 at 21:20
