A new poll from Susquenhanna shows Beau Biden overtaking Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware's Senate race; building a 45-40 lead early on in the race.
The Susquenhanna poll could be just what Democrats need to convince Biden (D), the state's attorney general and the son of Vice President Joe Biden, to make the leap are run against Castle (R).
Castle held a 21-point lead in the last Susquehanna poll, from April, when neither he nor Biden were actually candidates. Other polling on the race, including an October Research 2000 poll for the liberal website Daily Kos, has had Castle with single-digit leads.
Democrats will point out that Castle's decline in the polls coincided with his vote against the health care reform bill in the House earlier this month.
Biden has been quiet about the race since returning from Iraq last month. That has led some to speculate that he might not be as gung-ho about the race as once thought.
Despite the blue nature of the state, Castle is a popular former governor and remains politically formidable. If Biden doesn't run, Castle will likely be favored to win the seat.
