Sen. Kerry's daughter pulled over for DUI

By Tony Romm - 11/19/09 04:20 PM ET

Police this morning arrested Sen. John Kerry's (D-Mass.) daughter, Alexandra Forbes Kerry, after officers on a routine traffic stop suspected she was driving under the influence.

According to TMZ, Alexandra was pulled over while passing through Hollywood in the early hours of the morning for a traffic violation.

When officers suspected she was intoxicated, they asked her to take a field sobriety test, but Alexandra ultimately refused.

A test administered later at a Los Angeles County police station revealed Alexandra's blood alcohol level was .06 -- under California's legal limit of .08, but high enough that the city could still prosecute Alexandra for her wrongdoing.

However, local officials reportedly will not follow through with those charges, TMZ reported.

Of course not, but for the rest of us in fly over country we'll get a huge fine and face the judge.Friends or in this case parents in high places can get the officials to look the other way. I love this "American Ride".BY Tekel on 11/19/2009 at 17:00
Well, if she was the daughter of a conservative she would not only be prosecuted, she would be lambasted all OVER the place by liberal media. But…she's John Kerry's daughter— and that makes it okay.BY Janj on 11/19/2009 at 17:20
What a joke! Like this is even news worthy! How about reporting things that really matter! To me I don’t care if it’s the Presidents daughters, and I’m talking about President Obama or President Bush or any other President that has children, never mind Senator Kerry. The Senator’s daughter was not even intoxicated! After the breathalyzer test revealed that she was not legally intoxicated, whether or not it was administered later at a Los Angeles County police station been told your good to go, you only blew a .06 instead of .08. Thank you and have a good day! But not in this illiterate, police state, selfish, “me” society of a culture we live in! We are such shallow people that the avenge citizen of this country think this is worthy! The people who love this most are the people the average citizen thinks is looking out for them; our politicians in Washington. They are just sitting back laughing saying, man is the average US citizen stupid or what?BY tcmully on 11/19/2009 at 17:20
She's as ugly are her old man, it's not her fault. If I had parents as stupid and useless as her's I would stay stoned all the time.BY Ted Kenadie on 11/19/2009 at 18:00
Anyone, regardless of status, should be automatically charged if they refuse the field sobriety test. It could be construed you're hiding something if you refuse the field test, in my opinion.BY Dave W on 11/19/2009 at 18:31
This is our liberal media. It will be swept under the rug. Oh my, if this were a conservative's daughter it would be headline on CNN.BY the liberal hater on 11/19/2009 at 18:57
She is not in politics, she is not in the public light, so what is the story here? Posting derogatory comments is pretty lowbrow.BY Mark X on 11/19/2009 at 19:02
ala Sarah Palin,… What kind of father is Kerry to raise such an irresponsible child. She could have killed someone. How can he ever hold office. I am sure Kerry was the one who gave her the booze and then gave her the keys to the car. What a horrible person Kerry is.BY DavidArizona on 11/19/2009 at 19:11
I totaly agree with Dave W and the liberal hater , suspects should not be allowed to refuse a sobriety test because if and when they are tested the test will prove nothing, and yes if it had been a conservative's daughter CNN and every rag newspaper would be bashing her every hour on the hour.BY Tom J on 11/19/2009 at 19:13
Hard to believe that a liberal freak and daughter of a liberal freak got pulled over for DUI in Hollywood. Bravo to the cops for busting her. I'm sure she pulled the "do you know who I am" bit.BY LIAMD2 on 11/19/2009 at 19:28

"Punch will stun West," reads the headline above the fold on Drudge this Tuesday. The line refers to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent, vague promise this week to somehow "punch the arrogance" of the West on February 11. Also above the fold: A slew of weather-related links, including a report from the National Weather Service that predicts more snow for the already buried Capitol.… Read More »

"Healthcare theatrics" reads the banner atop The Huffington Post, which links to an AP story on the White House's struggle to bring GOP leaders to the table for a televised healthcare summit. The AP questions whether the event may have any utility outside of immediate personal politics. Below, reporter Sam Stein reports Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) plans to vote against the White House's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker.… Read More »

Moe Lane this morning summarizes the latest back-and-forth between the White House and congressional GOP leaders over healthcare. The White House wants Republicans to join Democrats for a televised healthcare summit in the coming days, but GOP leaders do not want Democrats' bill to be the basis for those talks. Meanwhile, Brian Darling takes on NYT columnist Paul Krugman's latest piece, in which he rails on the filibuster (and the GOP's use of it). "He is clearly way outside of his area of expertise when talking about Senate procedure, because his analysis is laughable," Darling writes.… Read More »

Spencer Ackerman leads The Washington Independent this morning with a post about William Lietzau, a top Obama White House appointee first installed during President George W. Bush's tenure. Lietzau handled the military commissions the Supreme Court later found unconstitutional, and Ackerman reports that he will soon become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs.Earlier, David Weigel shared Defense Secretary Robert Gates' thoughts on the passing of Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha (D). Noted Gates: "In our dealings over the years, Jack and I did not always agree, but I always respected his candor, and knew that he cared deeply about the men and women of America’s military and intelligence community." … Read More »
