Gallup: Obama rating to drop below 50

By Eric Zimmermann - 11/20/09 11:39 AM ET

President Barack Obama's approval rating will dip below 50 percent Friday in Gallup's daily tracking poll for the first time since he took office in January.

The organization updates its numbers at 1 p.m. EST, but it put out advance word Friday morning that Obama will dip below the halfway mark.

Obama's current rating stands at exactly 50 percent, so assuming he drops to only 48 or 49 percent, the dip would be more symbolic than statistically significant. Nevertheless, it will be a stark reminder that Obama's political cachet isn't what it once was.

We'll update with the actual numbers when they're released.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Gallup's official number is 49 percent approval for Obama.

Hahahahahahahah ahahahahaha. How much do you want to bet left-wing Obama worshippers will claim this is because he hasn't passed health care yet, when in fact the real reason is because the Dems are trying to ram a deeply unpopular bill down the throats of the American people. This "president" became a lame duck when unemployment hit 10.2% and his "presidency" has one-term written all over it. This is the fifth poll in the past three days to show his approval rating below 50%, and it is obvious the CNN and Washington Post polls are outliers. The decision to move the terror trial to NY was a very stupid move politically, and the Democratic Party will now be exceedingly lucky if it holds on to its majority in the House in 2010.BY ObamaisCarter on 11/20/2009 at 12:17
Oh but the *Ivy League Imbecile* will again try to spin it somehow into being Bush's fault. May as well change the name of the White House to the WAA! House.BY JD on 11/20/2009 at 12:31
And just wait until Obama starts peddling "comprehensive immigration reform" a/k/a mass amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens during this era of record unemployment. He approval ratings will nosedive even further.BY Dave on 11/20/2009 at 12:37
Personally, I hate the Democrats and everything they stand for.BY Rudy on 11/20/2009 at 12:48
Obama could care less about his poll numbers, He is willing to be a one termer if he can accomplish his main goal of bringing America to it's knees, of bringing America in line with other third world nations. He also realizes if things continue like they are and he can bust our economy prior to the 2010 elections things will be desperate enough for him to declare Martial Law and cancel elections forever. Why do you think moderates in the House and Senate feel comfortable voting with Obama on death care when 80% of the country wants nothing to do with the bill. They know the quicker America is broke and the dollar worthless the quicker Martial Law becomes the rule of the land and he has fulfilled his goal of handing America to the New World Order on a silver platter. Now will the NWO hold up their end of the bargain and name him as Dictator of the new Communist ruled NWO for life…I guess we will find outBY obamaisamarxist on 11/20/2009 at 12:55
48% HAH! Three months from now obama will be beggin to make it back up to 48%. This "presidency" is on it's way to Bush numbers. One term failure.BY Willis on 11/20/2009 at 12:55
Rudy, I am with you. My sentiments exactly.BY zak on 11/20/2009 at 13:02
I can't wait to see how his numbers drag down the rest of the Democrats. 2010 cannot come fast enough!BY Rudy Fan on 11/20/2009 at 13:32

"Punch will stun West," reads the headline above the fold on Drudge this Tuesday. The line refers to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent, vague promise this week to somehow "punch the arrogance" of the West on February 11. Also above the fold: A slew of weather-related links, including a report from the National Weather Service that predicts more snow for the already buried Capitol.… Read More »

"Healthcare theatrics" reads the banner atop The Huffington Post, which links to an AP story on the White House's struggle to bring GOP leaders to the table for a televised healthcare summit. The AP questions whether the event may have any utility outside of immediate personal politics. Below, reporter Sam Stein reports Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) plans to vote against the White House's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker.… Read More »

Moe Lane this morning summarizes the latest back-and-forth between the White House and congressional GOP leaders over healthcare. The White House wants Republicans to join Democrats for a televised healthcare summit in the coming days, but GOP leaders do not want Democrats' bill to be the basis for those talks. Meanwhile, Brian Darling takes on NYT columnist Paul Krugman's latest piece, in which he rails on the filibuster (and the GOP's use of it). "He is clearly way outside of his area of expertise when talking about Senate procedure, because his analysis is laughable," Darling writes.… Read More »

Spencer Ackerman leads The Washington Independent this morning with a post about William Lietzau, a top Obama White House appointee first installed during President George W. Bush's tenure. Lietzau handled the military commissions the Supreme Court later found unconstitutional, and Ackerman reports that he will soon become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Detainee Affairs.Earlier, David Weigel shared Defense Secretary Robert Gates' thoughts on the passing of Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha (D). Noted Gates: "In our dealings over the years, Jack and I did not always agree, but I always respected his candor, and knew that he cared deeply about the men and women of America’s military and intelligence community." … Read More »

John Aravosis points out that Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) has dropped most of his unprecedented blanket hold on most of the White House's nominees -- except a few defense posts, which remain tied up as Shelby seeks two lucrative military contracts for his home state. Later, Aravosis reports that the Department of Health and Human Services has opened an investigation into the California Blue Cross health insurance program, following reports that premiums there have increased 39 percent recently.… Read More »

Also, gues blogger Ralph Reed offers his thoughts on former Gov. Sarah Palin's national political aspirations.
