Senator: Postal Service to resume North Pole Santa letters
The United States Postal Service will allow volunteers to respond to letters sent to Santa Claus in North Pole, Alaska after all, said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) on Friday.
Earlier this year, the USPS decided to end the program over security concerns. Volunteers who participate in the program are based in the town of North Pole, which started responding to the letters in 1954.
The AP reported yesterday that the Deputy Postmaster General Pat Donahoe called Murkowski saying the letter program would continue. The Postal Service did not want the program to continue due to security concerns. A worker with the Operation Santa program in Maryland was found to be a registered sex offender.
