Senate to debate healthcare this weekend

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has announced the chamber's weekend schedule to debate healthcare reform, confirming that senators will be in session both Saturday and Sunday as expected.

Reid said the Senate will convene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with votes tentatively planned on two amendments around 2:30 or 3 p.m. and a late afternoon/early evening conclusion.

On Sunday, Reid said the chamber will begin at noon and end by 6 p.m., since several senators are planning to attend the Kennedy Center Honors gala that evening, at which singer Bruce Springsteen will be honored.

At some point during the afternoon, Reid will also hold a meeting of the Democratic caucus.
