Cunningham enters race against Burr

Former North Carolina state Sen. Cal Cunningham (D) on Monday announced that he will challenge Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) next year.

Cunningham, who previously declined to enter the race but changed his mind, will face a tough Democratic primary with North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. But the Democratic establishment has rallied around Cunningham, an Iraq veteran, and he should have its help in his primary.
