Biden: Dodd 'getting the living hell beat out of him' in quest for re-election

Struggling Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) is "getting the living hell beat out of him" in his campaign for re-election, Joe Biden said yesterday.

Speaking at a fundraiser for Dodd in Connecticut, Biden urged supporters to rally behind Dodd, whom he called "the single most gifted legislator in Congress."

"Chris is getting the living hell beat out of him, the living bejesus beat out of him,'' Biden said, according to a pool report. "Why? Because he's being a leader."

Dodd has put himself front and center on both healthcare reform and financial regulation. He's also come under fire for taking a controversial loan from Countrywide Mortgage before it folded.

Biden predicted that Dodd would ultimately win re-election.

"This is going to be a hell of a race and it's an uphill race,’’ the Veep predicted. “But Chris Dodd will prevail.''
