Weiner calls out Obama
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) had some tough words for President Obama yesterday, more or less blaming him for letting Joe Lieberman and Olympia Snowe take over the healthcare debate.
“Snowe? Stupak? Lieberman? Who left these people in charge? It’s time for the President to get his hands dirty," Weiner said in a statement. "Some of us have compromised our compromised compromise. We need the President to stand up for the values our party shares. We must stop letting the tail wag the dog of this debate."
Weiner has become something of a progressive point man on healthcare reform, and this isn't the first time he's taken a shot at Obama.
Of course, Obama's statement yesterday after meeting with Senate Democrats couldn't have encouraged Weiner. Obama seemed resigned to the fact that neither a public option nor Medicare buy-in would make it in the final bill.
