Greer resigns as Florida GOP chairman

Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer announced Tuesday that he will resign his post after three years.

The embattled chairman, who has faced allegations of mismanaging party money, cast the effort against him as political and said he cannot participate in an internal state GOP civil war.

"Therefore I determined that the party should always come first," Greer said. "These distractions and these attacks on each other within the party are not what we should be doing."

Greer said he will stay on for six weeks.

Greer said his political opponents have sought to "either remove me as party chairman, or if that doesn’t work, then burn the house down.”
