A progressive activist group has launched a petition begging Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) not to retire.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) is asking North Dakotans to write Dorgan and ask him to stay in the Senate. They've garnered over 1,000 signatures so far, according to their website.

Many liberals, including the PCCC, admire Dorgan for championing stricter financial regulations in the lead up to the financial crash. Since he announced his retirement, admirers have pointed a speech he gave in 1999 (video below) warning that relaxed regulations could lead to a financial crisis much like the one that occurred in 2008.
