Brown moneybomb raises $1.3 million
UPDATE 7:45 a.m. Tuesday: The final tally on the moneybomb is $1.3 million, which should give Brown a nice chunk of change to work with down the stretch.
UPDATE 5:01 p.m.: He added another $100,000 in the last half hour, and we appear to be headed for $1 million territory here. He's at $622,000.
UPDATE 4:26 p.m.: It's a really big money day for Brown, who has eclipsed the $500,000 goal and is now aiming for $750,000. He has raised $522,000 so far.
Republican Massachusetts Senate candidate Scott Brown has raised $273,000 so far today.
Brown's campaign is holding a moneybomb event through the website RedInvadesBlue.com, in which it hopes to raise as much money in one day as possible. The goal is $500,000, and so far, it is on pace for more than that.
Recent polling has shown Brown narrowing the gap in his special election campaign with Democratic state Attorney General Martha Coakley. It has been enough for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to send press secretary Hari Sevugan up to the state to close the deal in the Jan. 19 special election.
If Brown were to win the seat, it would be a shocking upset that would rob Democrats of their 60th vote in the Senate.
He is getting an assist today from Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R), who sent a fundraising e-mail and is linking to the moneybomb from the front of his website.
