Former Iowa State University wrestling coach Jim Gibbons (R) raised more than $200,000 in the fourth quarter for his campaign against Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa.).
Gibbons, who is one of several Republicans in the race, actually raised the sum in about six weeks. And of the $207,000 he raised, he banked $203,000.
“This strong showing of financial support is a reflection of the frustration Iowans feel about the direction that this country is going,” Gibbons said. “Iowans are excited to have a congressman that will cast votes that are in line with their values, particularly on health care and taxes. Iowans want a congressman who will reflect Iowa values, not San Francisco.”
Boswell fell off the map for Republicans the last couple cycles, but they are girding to go after him this time. The incumbent, who turned 75 this week, has been the subject of retirement speculation. In response, he has last week, "I'm running."
Other Republicans running include retired airline pilot Dave Funk and state Sen. Brad Zaun.
