Republicans land Larsen challenger
Another rematch could be afoot in this year's congressional elections. This one, though, is a bit more of a throwback.
Snohomish County Councilman John Koster (R), who lost an open-seat race to Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) in 2000, is back for another try. Koster, who previously served three terms in the state House, lost to Larsen 50-46 in their race 10 years ago.
Larsen's district, which is northeast of Seattle, isn't as friendly for Republicans as retiring Rep. Brian Baird's (D-Wash.) district further south. But it was designed to be a swing district, and Koster came close enough once.
Since losing that race, Koster has served most of the decade on the country council. He is the only Republican on the council.
