California Senate passes single-payer

The California state Senate has approved a state-wide single payer healthcare program, the AP reports.

The measure passed on a party line vote of 22-14. The Assembly has yet to act.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has said he will veto the bill if it reaches his desk. The move by the senate may reflect growing unease that Congress will enact a nation-wide reform bill.
