Ensign roasts Obama about Court jab
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) on Thursday criticized President Barack Obama for taking a tab at the Supreme Court during his State of the Union address.
Ensign said that Obama picked the wrong venue in which to blast the Court over its recent campaign finance decision.
He tweeted a series of messages:
Sitting on the a plane waiting to take off and thinking about last night's SOTU and the president. I think he totally mishandled
the Supreme Court issue. Not only did he misstate the facts but he was also inappropriately rude to the justices.
It’s fine for him to criticize the Supreme Court, but not during the SOTU address when the justices are supposed to remain quiet
and reserved. He should have respected them as a co-equal branch of government and saved his criticism for a different time.
Obama criticized the Court's decision to lift limits on corporate spending in politics during his speech while six of the nine Justices sat on the House floor listening to the speech.
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) made similar criticisms earlier Thursday.
Engisn has kept a relatively low profile over the past several months after it was revealed he kept up an affair with the wife of a staffer while also setting up the ex-staffer with a lobbying position.
Until two weeks ago, Ensign had not used his Twitter account since June.
When Obama commented about the decision, Justice Samuel Alito shook his head an appeared to say the words "not true" when Obama delivered his rebuke, a comment with which several liberal blogs took exception.
