Obama to hold town hall in New Hampshire on Tuesday
New Hampshire will be the next stop on President Barack Obama's national tour promoting his economic recovery and jobs agenda, the White House announced Friday.
The president will head to the all-important political battleground state on Tuesday, Feb. 2, as part of his "White House to Main Street" town hall series, according to the administration.
Obama has already visited Elyria, Ohio and Allentown, Pa. this and last year, respectively -- two other states also known for being political bellwethers.
Senate Democrats are preparing to introduce some variation of a jobs bill next week, leaders said on Thursday. That package is likely to be a two-tiered approach, with short- and long-term reforms for both businesses and workers, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told reporters.
Meanwhile, the White House is ramping up its own focus on jobs. The president earlier Friday morning debuted a tax credit for businesses that hire new workers. That credit also applies to companies that increase pay for current employees, according to the White House.
"The economy is growing, but job growth is lagging. This is only one part of our larger jobs package, but it will be a key element to spur hiring and give all small businesses that participate significant tax relief," Obama said earlier Friday about his new proposal.
