Feinstein: Hold civilian terror trials on military bases
The chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee suggested today that the Obama administration could move the controversial trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed from New York City to a military base.
Today, Feinstein told reporters that a military base might be appropriate.
"I think they could be held in a military base somewehre, very easily, with facilities," she said. A military installation would provide a "very secure setting" for an "open, transparent" trial.
Feinstein added that she isn't tied to the idea of a civilian trial, however.
"The president should have the flexibility whether to use a military commission or a trial. And I think that's a decision that should rest with the administration, and there should be flexibility," she said.
