Geithner: Sen. Brown wrong on stimulus success
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Sunday said Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) is flat wrong on the $787 billion stimulus package.
Brown said after winning election that the stimulus did not create any jobs.
"I don’t think there is any basis for that judgment," Geithner said on ABC's "This Week".
The White House and independent economists have argued that the stimulus package has created or saved at least several hundred thousand jobs and contributed several percentage points to the nation's overall rate of growth. The economy grew at a rate of 5.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The labor market continues to suffer with the government reporting last week that 20,000 jobs were lost in January. The unemployment rate dipped from 10 percent to 9.7 percent.
