Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R) raised more than $720,000 from a fundraising effort dubbed the "stimulus bomb," his campaign announced via text message Thursday. The 10-day push fell short of its goal but the former Florida House speaker's campaign still seemed pleased with the result, touting the some 8,000 individuals who contributed.
Rubio was trying to raise $787,000 to coincide with the anniversary of "the hug" between Gov. Charlie Crist (R) and President Obama.
Crist and Rubio were almost tied in fundraising last quarter. Crist reported $2 million raised and Rubio reported a $1.75 million haul.
