White House issues list of GOP health reform ideas included in Obama plan
Seeking to fend off criticism from Republicans that its healthcare reform plan is more of the same, the White House on Monday unveiled a list of GOP ideas included in its proposal.
The White House published a laundry list of GOP ideas in President Barack Obama's plan, including various crackdowns on waste, fraud and abuse.
The push-back comes as Republicans leaders ripped into Obama's proposal ahead of the White House's bipartisan healthcare summit on Thursday.
GOPers have said Democratic efforts to craft a reform proposal before the meeting show that they are trying to pull the rug out from under it.
“The president has crippled the credibility of this week’s summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected," House Minority John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement Monday.
Republicans have ramped up pressure on Democrats to start from scratch on health reform since Sen. Scott Brown (R) surprisingly won the Massachusetts special election, becoming the 41st GOP senator to uphold a filibuster on the overhaul.
The White House's list of Republican reforms passed by Congress includes personal responsibility incentives for insurers to reduce premiums, state-based medical liability reform and extending dependent coverage.
