VIDEO: Weiner launches into tirade against GOP on House floor
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) tore into Republicans in a floor speech delivered Wednesday, repeatedly accusing them of being a "wholly-owned subsidiary of the insurance industry."
Weiner, who is a proponent of a universal, government-run healthcare system, launched into a yelling tirade against Republicans, accusing them of blocking Democratic health insurance reform.
"You gotta love these Republicans. I mean you guys have chutzpah," he begun. "The Republican Party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of an [sic] insurance industry. That's the fact."
Republican Rep. Dan Lungren (Calif.) twice asked that Weiner's words be taken down, a request that the acting speaker discipline him for making inappropriate comments.
"Mr. Speaker, I ask that the gentleman's words be taken down," Lungren said.
"You really don't want to go here Mr. Lungren," Weiner shot back.
After the first request, Weiner again went down the same path.
"Make no mistake about it, every single Republican that I have met in my entire life is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the insurance industry."
The conflict runs until about the 3:00 mark of this video (provided by Weiner's office):
