Democrats went on the offensive against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) on Monday, in another effort to target a 2012 GOP presidential hopeful.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) released a new web video featuring numerous appearances by Romney in which the 2008 Republican presidential candidate says that insurance companies aren't completely to blame for healthcare problems in the U.S.
“Based on his comments over the past few weeks, we have to assume Mitt Romney hasn’t fallen victim to sky-rocketing premiums or the rationing of care based on pre-existing conditions and discriminating factors such as age or gender," DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in a statement.
The video is just as significant for its choice to take aim at Romney, who's seen as a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. In early February, the DNC took strides to target Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) in a similar matter, arguing that Pawlenty, another presidential hopeful, lacks credibility on fiscal issues.
"But for most Americans, unattainable health care is far from a ‘silly’ matter," Woodhouse said of Romney. "In fact it is a scary reality that millions of Americans must face as families must decide between paying their mortgage and paying their health care bills and business owners must make difficult decisions on providing quality care for their employees."
