Democratic leaders will retain Rep. Dan Maffei (D-N.Y.) as a yes vote on healthcare reform legislation.

The freshman Democrat from upstate New York announced at an office of the American Cancer Society, which supports the bill.

"While reform process isn’t pretty, we’ve debated this bill long enough," he said. "In fact, we’ve talked about reforming health care for decades. Doing nothing is no longer an option."

Maffei voted yes on the House's healthcare bill in November, but was undecided this time around, according to a survey by The Hill.

Some had thought that the congressman could flip because he represents a district traditionally held by Republicans.
