Obama not fazed by House procedure
President Obama said today he's not too concerned about what procedure Congress uses to pass healthcare reform.
“I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the procedural rules are in the House or Senate," he said in an interview with Fox News set to air tonight.
"What I can tell you is that the vote that’s taken in the House will be a vote for health care reform. And if people vote yes, whatever form that takes, that is going to be a vote for health care reform. And I don’t think we should pretend otherwise."
The House is using a controversial "self-executing rule" to pass the Senate bill with changes. Under the mechanism, the House will "deem" the Senate bill to have been approved only after they have enacted modifications. This saves vulnerable Democrats from having to vote directly on unpopular portions of the Senate bill.
