Capitol Police investigating suspicious package by Library of Congress

Update, 1:44 p.m.: Around 1:30 p.m. Capitol Police gave the all-clear that the package was not dangerous and re-opened the area to traffic.

Capitol Police are investigating a suspicious package near the front entrance of the Library of Congress.

Shortly before 1 p.m. police closed vehicle and pedestrian traffic on First Street, which runs between the Library of Congress and the Capitol Visitor Center.

The Capitol Police bomb squad is on the scene.
