Boehner wants 'call of the roll' on healthcare vote

In a letter sent to Speaker Pelosi on Friday afternoon, House Minority Leader John Boehner demanded that the House use a "call of the roll" for the healthcare bill vote.

Under this procedure, each member would have to stand and state how they are voting on the healthcare bill.

It is rarely used, primarily during the convening of each congress when the House elects a Speaker.

"This weekend’s votes will be among the most consequential votes we will ever cast as Members of Congress.  As such, it is my belief that every Member should stand before the American people and announce his or her vote as the final decision is made," Boehner writes in the letter to Pelosi.
