Baird flips to support health bill
Democrats picked up another key healthcare vote Sunday as Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) said he would vote for the healthcare bill.
Baird, who had voted against health reform legislation in the House in November, told reporters and released a statement early this afternoon pledging to support the package.
"Weighing the concerns against the benefits of the legislation, and considering that the status quo is unsustainable, I will vote for this legislation," Baird said in a statement.
The vote from Baird, who is retiring, moves Democrats closer to the 216 votes they needed to approve the legislation.
The House is expected to vote on the Senate healthcare bill this afternoon, along with a package making a series of changes to that original bill, as well as a series of procedural votes.
