Religious group calls Obama 'first gay president'
President Obama could be called the nation's "first gay president" due to his support for gay rights, an official for the conservative Family Research Council said yesterday.
Some liberals called Bill Clinton the first "black president" due to his support for policies that would arguably support African Americans. Tom McClusky, a Senior Vice President of FRC, wrote on the organization's blog that Obama's support for the "homosxual agenda" should earn him a similar honorary title. (h/t Steve Benen.)
"With that argument shouldn’t Barack Obama already be our 'first gay President' due to his liberal policies pushing the homosexual agenda?" McClusky wrote.
He continued:
During the campaign President Obama made it clear he would be a strong advocate for the homosexual agenda when elected, however the bumbling of the health care debate by his party has been a roadblock for him on two big issues, allowing gays to serve in the military and passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would allow for special protections for homosexuals, transgendered and transvestites. One goal of the homosexual lobby was the passage of hate crimes legislation that would federalize crimes against homosexuals. The legislation had to be attached to a non-germane Defense authorization bill and was signed into law by the President at a White House ceremony where numerous homosexual groups celebrated the passage of this legislation on a bill originally meant to fund our troops.
