Dem Sen. Hagan won't attend Obama speech Friday

Freshman Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) will not attend President Barack Obama's speaking engagement in the Tar Heel state Friday.

Hagan was invited to the event but cannot make it because her return from Afghanistan has been delayed, according to her office.

The North Carolina senator, who is on the Armed Services Committee, this week traveled to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan with Sens. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), another member of the armed services panel and Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.)

Obama is scheduled to deliver remarks on the economy Friday, wrapping up a week in which he spoke about oil and gas drilling in Maryland and healthcare reform in Maine.
