White House sees financial reform passing before July 4
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday he thinks President Barack Obama will be able to sign financial reform legislation before July 4.
"I think there is some reason to believe that the Senate will conclude its business this week," Gibbs said. "We're hopeful. And I think the bill is a very strong piece of legislation in changing the rules that govern our financial system.
"Obviously, the next steps will be working through those differences with the House, and I think we'll have a bill to the president's desk somewhat shortly."
When asked if that meant the president will sign a bill before July 4, Gibbs said: "That sounds about right."
