With less than a week to go, Democrat Kathy Hochul is carrying a small lead in the race to represent New York's 26th Congressional District, according to a new Siena College poll. Forty-two percent of those polled said they would vote for Hochul, while 38 percent said they would vote for Republican Jane Corwin.
The four percentage-point lead is just barely outside the poll's margin of error. Jack Davis, a wealthy businessman who is running on the Tea Party line, earned only 12 percent in the Siena poll. “With the eyes of the nation focusing on Western New York, Democrat Kathy Hochul has moved from trailing Republican Jane Corwin by five to leading by four points as independent Jack Davis has seen his support cut in half falling from twenty-three percent three weeks ago to only twelve percent today,” Dr. Don Levy, the director of the Siena Research Institute, said in the poll's announcement. At the end of April, Siena found that Corwin held a five percentage-point lead over Hochul. Hochul, Corwin and Davis are vying to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Chris Lee (R), who resigned earlier in the year.

Rep. Ron Paul, the Texas Republican who is running for president in 2012, said Sunday he is "pretty well-equipped" to occupy the Oval Office. "Compared to others, I would say I'm pretty well-equipped; I've had a fair amount of experience," Paul said on "Fox News Sunday." "I've been in the military. I was in the military five years. That gives me a little bit of experience."
The 2012 campaign will be the third run for the White House by the libertarian-leaning congressman, but on Sunday he said he would limit the scope of responsibilities for the office he hopes to hold. "But to brag that I can run things, I don't do that, because that's not what a president is supposed to do. A president is supposed to guarantee and work for the protection of liberty and allow people to take care of their problems," Paul said.
