Kucinich Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Bush

By Andy Barr
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush Monday evening on the House floor.

Kucinich accused Bush of misleading the American public and members of Congress in order "to manufacture a false case for war."

"President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," Kucinich said.

The articles are similar to those raised against Vice President Dick Cheney last year.

With help from some House Republicans who wanted to force a vote the last time around, Kucinich was able to briefly outmaneuver House leadership and force a period of debate for the articles against Cheney.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has repeatedly said she opposes any move on impeachment proceedings directed at Bush, calling Kucinich's idea "off the table."

Here is the video of part of Kucinich's speech Monday.

McClellan Will Testify

By Andy Barr
Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has accepted the House Judiciary Committee's invitation to testify on June 20.

Soon after committee chair John Conyers (D-Mich.) sent the invitation to McClellan, the former press secretary's lawyers announced that McClellan will appear.

McClellan's testimony will focus on allegations made in his book about White House involvement in the Valerie Plame leak.

Earlier in the day, Conyers said, "in his book, Mr. McClellan suggests that senior White House officials may have obstructed justice and engaged in a cover-up regarding the Valerie Plame leak. This alleged activity could well extend beyond the scope of the offenses for which Scooter Libby has been convicted and deserves further attention."

Committee lawyers have been in discussions with McClellan's legal team since May 30 on the terms of McClellan's appearance.

Bush: People Might Not Like The President, But They Like America

By Walter Alarkon
President Bush, rarely one to acknowledge his slump in the polls, said that a president's low ratings won't erase warm feelings toward the United States.

Bush made his remark in response to a question in a Slovenian television interview over rising anti-Americanism in Europe and throughout the world.

"This is what I tell people," he said. "First of all, you can't make decisions based upon opinion polls. Secondly, that a lot of people like America. They may not sometimes necessarily like the president, but they like America. They like what America stands for."

He noted that many people still want to come to the United States.

"I dismiss [anti-American sentiment] as kind of like what happens when there's kind of gossip and rumors and -- because the truth of the matter is, America, just like many nations in Europe, stands for what's right, which is decency, and freedom of speech, and freedom to worship," he said. "And I'm very proud of my country, obviously."

Bush also said that the United States' relations with India have improved and that its ties to other countries remain strong.

"We stand for liberty and human rights and freedom," he said. "Look, I've had to make some tough decisions that some people didn't like. But the truth of the matter is, when you really look at -- like, for example, our relations in the Far East, we got great relations with Japan, China and Korea -- South Korea."

Earlier, the Briefing Room noted that Bush said in his Slovenian TV interview that the current presidential race reminded him of his first White House bid, when he also ran on a message of "change."

Bush Gets Lowest Approval Rating Yet

By Andy Barr
President Bush's approval rating has hit an new low, dropping to 25 percent in the most recent CBS News poll.

Bush now ranks 3rd all time in lowest approval rating, hovering above Richard Nixon's 24 percent in August 1974 and Harry Truman's 22 percent in February 1952. Bush's 67 percent disapproval rating, however, ranks slightly higher than both Nixon and Truman during their least popular rating.

The Iraq war continues to plague the president's popularity. Despite much touted "success" for the surge, 61 percent of respondents said Iraq will never be a stable democracy, up 8 percent since September. And 42 percent want troops out of Iraq within the year.

An overwhelming 83 percent of respondents said the country is on the wrong track.

Katherine Harris Not Happy with Portrayal in 'Recount'

By Andy Barr
Former Republican Congresswoman, and Florida Secretary of State, Katherine Harris is making the media rounds to express her outrage over her portrayal in the HBO movie "Recount" about the 2000 presidential recount in Florida.

"The historic facts are so distorted," Harris said, appearing on Hannity & Colmes with her lawyer. "It's rather outrageous."

The film has been a frequent target of conservative media critics who blast the movie for its favorable portrayal of Al Gore's legal team while showing George Bush's team in a unfalteringly light.

"The last thing I like is the spotlight," Harris said.

Harris used her role in 2000 recount to propel her to a congressional seat, and an ill-fated Senate run.

Here is the video:
