John McCain says he isn't sure whether Barack Obama is a socialist or not.
During a campaign stop in Kansas City, McCain said, "Senator Obama has the most extreme record of any member of the United States Senate."
Clarifying the statement to the Kansas City Star, McCain said, "that's his voting record."
"All I said was that is his voting record, and that is more to the left than the announced socialist in the United States Senate, Bernie Sanders of Vermont."
Asked if that means he thinks Obama is socialist, McCain shrugged and said, "I don't know, all I know is his voting record and that
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) criticized Barack Obama ahead of his trip to Iraq and praised John McCain for his leadership of the surge.
Romney, on "The Today Show" on Friday, said that Obama will stick to his support for a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq regardless of the advice he'll get from U.S. generals.
"My guess is he'll say, 'Don't confuse me with the facts. My mind is already made up,'" Romney said. "He's already said what he'd do without the benefit of speaking to Gen. [David] Petraeus and to leaders on the ground there. John McCain is saying, look, his goal is to get all of our troops out by the end of his first term that are in a combat setting, and he's going to get that done, but he's not going to do it based upon some artificial political timetable."
Romney, considered a possible vice presidential pick for McCain, said that voters will end up choosing "the guy who's been there, who has the experience, who's demonstrated that he was right on the surge."
He added that McCain was "the author of it."
Liberal blogs have noted that neoconservative thinkers, not McCain, conceived of the strategy to send more troops to Iraq.
A little girl ran away from President Bush and someone dressed as a chipmunk Thursday during a White House tee-ball game.
The girl was walking up to greet Bush after having her name announced as part of the starting lineup, when either Bush or the chipmunk apparently spooked her. She then ran across the field out through a gate.
The girl appeared to be crying before walking up to meet Bush.

Hip hop musician Will.i.am is looking to do the same for Al Gore and climate change as he did for Barack Obama, hoping to recreate the popularity of his Obama-inspired Youtube video "Yes We Can" for Gore. The Obama video was viewed by millions and has frequently been played before Obama events on the campaign trail.
"It's taking that message that he has and translating it to random, regular people who work at Starbucks, who work at Target, who work at the gas station -- the workers and the people who got laid off from work that aren
Both presidential candidates released statements in which they offered condolences to the families of two kidnapped Israeli soldiers whose bodies were returned by Hezbollah Thursday.
The bodies of Sgt. Eldad Regev and Sgt. Ehud Goldwasser returned to Israel Thursday as part of a prisoner swap. The 2006 kidnapping of the sergeants, along with the abduction of Sgt. Gilad Shalit by Hamas, led to increased Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza. Shalit remains a hostage of Hamas.
Here's Mccain's statement:
"I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser. When I met the Regev and Goldwasser families in Israel, I was moved by their profound love for their sons, who were kidnapped by Hezbollah in the summer of 2006. Now we know that Eldad and Ehud made the ultimate sacrifice for the country they served and loved. In spite of this tragic loss, Israel and the United States will remain united in their struggle against terrorism. The continuing attacks on Israel by Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terrorist groups supported by state sponsors of terror like Syria and Iran pose a severe threat to Israel. Our democratic ally is under siege, and these two deaths are just the latest in a long line of brave Israelis who have been killed by vicious terrorists. Though we mourn the loss of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, we are reminded by this that we must never waver in our support for Israel, and we continue to demand the re lease of Gilad Shalit, taken captive by Hamas and held illegally since the summer of 2006."
Here's Obama's statement:
"Today the people of Israel received confirmation of the deaths of two of their bravest sons, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Since their capture by Hezbollah terrorists in 2006, we have all held out the hope that they were still alive and would be coming home to their families, who campaigned so heroically across the world for their return. I was honored to meet last year with Ehud's wife Karnit and his mother Miki, who were visiting Washington on behalf of the Goldwasser, Regev, and Shalit families, and I offered them my hope and prayers and help. Today, Michelle and I offer the Goldwasser and Regev families, our deepest condolences on their loss, a tragedy no family should have to bear. In their time of extraordinary grief, an entire nation and friends throughout our country and around the world mourn with them. As they fought so hard for their loved ones' freedom, let us all reaffirm our commitment to win the freedom of the lone remaining Israeli solider held captive by terrorists, Gilad Shalit, so that his family can be spared this pain and welcome him back into their arms."
Former President Bill Clinton, returning to his role as global activist for the first time after his wife's presidential run, today announced an agreement with six drug companies to lower the price of a malaria-fighting drug by 30 percent.
Clinton made the announcement in New York City at the office of his charitable organization, the William J. Clinton Foundation, which has conducted global initiatives on poverty and HIV/AIDS.
"Nearly every life lost to malaria could have been saved with access to effective medicines," President Clinton said. "My Foundation has helped organize markets for HIV/AIDS drugs, and I am proud that we have been able to extend this model to malaria."
