President's SCHIP Limits Jeopardize Coverage for Tens of Thousands (Rep. Joe Baca)

Democrats in the House of Representatives and the Senate have passed legislation that reauthorizes and strengthens SCHIP, making it possible to provide millions of uninsured children with health coverage.

Unfortunately, the President’s new administrative hurdles will jeopardize existing coverage for tens of thousands of children in low and moderate-income families -- and prevent many more from receiving even the most basic health coverage.

SCHIP saves lives.  With these new regulations, the President is taking away the only option many families have to care for their sick children.  Every child, no matter the income level of their parents, deserves the opportunity for a healthy and bright future.

I urge the President to reconsider this new policy and join Congress in strengthening the SCHIP program.
