Vote Shows Congress Isn't Interested in Occupying Iraq (Rep. Lynn Woolsey)

This vote sends a message to the American public, to the international community, and most importantly to the Iraq people - that we are not interested in occupying Iraq.

Now we must go further and show the Iraqis that we are serious about leaving by taking steps to eliminate our military footprint.  That means not only banning permanent military bases, but also reevaluating our training program, and shrinking the size of our embassy so that it looks like a diplomatic mission, not a military base.  And most importantly - we must follow the will of the American public and begin a fully funded withdrawal of our troops and military contractors from Iraq, and return Iraq to the Iraqis.

The President got us into the mess; it's now up to the Congress to get us out.
