Passing Senate Immigration Bill Would Be Unconscionable (Rep. Ken Calvert)

There are numerous reasons to oppose the Senate immigration bill and yesterday Sen. DeMint (R-S.C.) revealed one more: the $4.4 billion touted for building the fence can also be used to process amnesty visas, if the bill is passed.

The proponents of the Senate bill insist that passing this legislation will solve our immigration woes -- it will simultaneously secure the border, increase interior enforcement while bringing illegal immigrants out of the ‘shadows.’ In reality, passing this bill will draw more illegal immigrants to our country, create a multi-million dollar document forgery business for those who want to illegally qualify for the amnesty, and once again relegate border security to the back burner.  Congress cannot, in good conscience, defy the wishes of American citizens and vote for this legislation.
