Congress Can Reestablish Its Role

It seems to me this opportunity for a clear and unequivocal reaction to the troop escalation is long overdue. It will be an opportunity to provide some clarity. We’ve seen in times past our Republican friends, for instance, try to rewrite Jack Murtha’s (D-Pa.) resolution into a cartoon of it. This is something that is clear and unequivocal: more troops, as the president is urging, or not.

It gives an opportunity to start a long overdue conversation. I see this as the stepping stone to Congress being able to reestablish its appropriate role in policy, oversight, and the power of the purse. The next hundred days, I think, are going to be very eventful as an opportunity to redirect this tragic debacle that has emerged from the President’s action in Iraq.
