Candidates Should "Walk A Day" In Workers' Shoes

By Service Employees International Union Vice President Eliseo Medina - 02/02/07 08:30 AM ET
No matter how much time I spend outside of Washington with our members, I am struck by how practical and principled they are compared to the “thought leaders

Over the next couple months, SEIU members are urging all candidates, Democrats and Republicans, to experience firsthand what their lives are like by spending time at their jobs and in their homes. I’m convinced that walking a day in workers’ shoes will be quite an education for even the most seasoned candidate.

And I believe that if every politician in Washington took the time to walk a day in the shoes of workers, we’d be a whole lot closer to creating a country where work pays and we create a new American Dream for all.
