'Sack' the czars (Rep. Steve Scalise)

By Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) - 09/18/09 11:53 AM ET

As the size of the federal government continues to grow at an alarming rate, the number of czars appointed by President Obama has grown at an equally alarming rate.  Now the proposed government takeover of health care would create a new “Health Care Czar.”  The government should not be running banks, car companies, or our nation’s health care.  And we definitely don’t need all these czars!

Earlier this week I introduced the Sunset All Czars (“SAC”) Act, which will sunset all of these czars who have unbridled powers without the accountability that comes with the constitutionally required Senate confirmation process.  HR 3569 requires all of the President’s czars to be removed from their appointed, non-confirmed offices by the end of this year.  It is time we return to the principles laid out by our Founding Fathers when they wrote the U.S. Constitution.
