Sheep-beating video investigation moved to Air Force

By Jeremy Herb - 01/25/12 05:53 PM ET

The men in a video in which a sheep was repeatedly beaten with a baseball bat are wearing Air Force uniforms, according to Army investigators.

The sheep-beating video has been passed on from Army investigators to the Air Force after the Army analyzed the video, according to Lt. Col. Andy Roake, an Air Force spokesman.

Roake told The Hill that there is nothing new on the status of the investigation beyond the Air Force Office of Special Investigations taking over. The men in the video have not been identified.

The video, which was posted online, shows the apparent airmen hooting and hollering as a man in civilian clothing beats a sheep repeatedly. The video’s description says it was shot in Afghanistan, although that has not been verified.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent the video to the Army in November. But the group said it did not receive a response until it highlighted the video for a second time earlier this month in the wake of another video depicting four Marines urinating on Taliban corpses.

The Army said last week that it was investigating the incident and that it had seen PETA’s letter online.
