Eight US soldiers charged in shooting death

By John T. Bennett - 12/21/11 11:04 AM ET

Eight American soldiers have been charged in the Oct. 3 shooting death of a comrade-in-arms.

The soldiers were charged Wednesday, according to media reports citing the NATO command in Afghanistan.

After he was found shot dead in a guard tower in Afghanistan, it was first suspected that Pvt. Danny Chen had committed suicide. But a military investigation determined that might not have been the case.

It was unclear from the charges if the soldiers are being charged with killing Chen, or with foul play that contributed to his death, according to multiple media reports.
