PETA wants Army to investigate sheep-beating video
Coming on the heels of a video last week in which U.S. Marines allegedly urinated on Taliban corpses, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) now wants the Army to investigative another video posted online that allegedly shows soldiers beating a sheep in Afghanistan.
The PETA video has been posted online since November, but after last week’s Marines video sparked a worldwide response, the animal-rights group publicized its video once again, looking for it to gain new traction.
The graphic video, which was posted on LiveLeak.com and has more than 98,000 views, shows a man in civilian clothing beating a sheep repeatedly in the head with a baseball bat as a handful of men wearing Army pants watch, hooting and hollering.
PETA sent a letter to Army Secretary John McHugh asking for an investigation, but said Friday it had yet to hear a response.
PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk, posted an update on the group’s website Wednesday that said the Army told them they had not received their complaint about the video.
An Army spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
