Army general charged with sex crimes, adultery

By Jeremy Herb - 09/26/12 05:26 PM ET

A one-star Army general has been charged by the military with adultery and sex crimes and faces possible courts martial.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair was charged with forcible sodomy, multiple counts of adultery and having inappropriate relationships with female subordinates, The Associated Press reported.

The accusations against Sinclair, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, were announced by the Army at a brief press conference at Fort Bragg in North Carolina; no questions were taken.

Sinclair had served as deputy commander in charge of logistics and support for the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, according to the AP, but he was sent back to the United States in May as a result of the allegations.

The next step in Sinclair’s case is an Article 32 hearing, which will determine if the case goes to trial.
