US citizen rescued in Afghanistan

By Kyle Balluck - 12/08/12 08:34 PM ET

Military officials said a U.S. citizen was rescued from the Taliban during an operation in eastern Afghanistan.

Insurgents abducted Dilip Joseph earlier this week in Kabul Province, according to a brief statement from coalition forces.

Gen. John R. Allen, commander of United States Forces – Afghanistan, said he ordered the mission when intelligence showed that Joseph was in imminent danger.

“Today’s mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to defeating the Taliban,” Allen said in the statement.

“I’m proud of the American and Afghan forces that planned, rehearsed and successfully conducted this operation."

Allen said Joseph, who is currently undergoing evaluations, will rejoin his family soon.
