Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will decide by the end of the
month the fate of a four-star general
under investigation for lavish travel and other perks, The Associated Press
reported. Army Gen. William “Kip” Ward, a former chief of U.S. Africa Command,
has been under investigation for nearly a year and a half, after he left the Africa command post last year.
The AP reports that Ward faces allegations he spent more
than six figures allowing unauthorized people — including family members — to
fly on government planes, citing several unnamed Pentagon officials. He also is accused of spending excessive amounts on

Freshman Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.) said Wednesday that the Transportation Security Administration is violating a new law to accelerate airport screening of military personnel.
Cravaack sponsored a bill he said required the TSA to develop a separate process for checking military personnel when they travel by July 2.
Instead, Cravaack said, the agency has only set up a pilot program in three airports.
“It reads 'not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this act, the assistant secretary shall implement the plan required by this act,'" Cravaack said of the bill during a hearing held Wednesday by the House Homeland Security Committee's subcommittee on Transportation Security.
"180 days after enactment was July 2nd of this year," he said.
